What is Infoblox?

Infoblox provides cloud-first networking and security solutions. They focus on core network services like DNS, DHCP, and IP address management (IPAM). Their solutions help automate and secure these critical networking functions.

What is RapDev’s Infoblox integration?

Network Identity Operating System (NIOS) is the operating system that powers Infoblox core network services. NIOS is the basis for Next Level Networking and ensures non-stop operation of network infrastructure. NIOS automates the error-prone and time-consuming manual tasks associated with deploying and managing DNS, DHCP, and IP address management (IPAM) required for continuous network availability and business uptime.

With this integration, you can monitor Infoblox node health and IPAM performance by reporting metrics and service checks on the summary reports that Infoblox produces.

What’s in the integration?

The integration extracts metrics and status information from Infoblox and forwards them to Datadog. Let's delve into the main functions to understand how they contribute to creating a holistic view of your network infrastructure.

  1. Network Metrics Retrieval: The integration fetches all your networks set up using Infoblox and collects critical IP Address Management (IPAM) metrics for each network. It retrieves each network's statistics, such as conflict count, utilization, and unmanaged count. These metrics are crucial for understanding the health and performance of IP addresses within your infrastructure. The out-of-the-box dashboard shows these metrics on Datadog as shown below:
  1. Member Metrics Retrieval: The integration also obtains metrics related to Infoblox members, which represent different nodes within the infrastructure. It fetches information such as High Availability (HA) status, node status, disk usage, and service-specific details like DHCP and DNS status. The output of each of these service checks is one of the following codes:
  • OK
  • WARNING
  • CRITICAL
  • UNKNOWN

The screenshot below shows the dashboard section of health checks for the various node metrics.

  1. Network Monitors: The final component of the integration sets up monitors for the most essential components of your network - DNS and DHCP services. If either goes down, you or anyone you have added to the monitor setup will receive an alert when Datadog detects the status change.

Conclusion

In the ever-evolving landscape of IT infrastructure management, integrations like the one between Infoblox and Datadog play a pivotal role in providing real-time insights and facilitating proactive decision-making. RapDev’s Infoblox integration exemplifies our commitment to comprehensive monitoring, enabling organizations to maintain the highest network health and performance standards. As businesses continue to rely on robust and interconnected IT ecosystems, such integrations become indispensable for staying ahead of potential challenges and ensuring the smooth functioning of critical network components.
