Managing IP addresses and discovery schedules can be a daunting and ongoing task for many ServiceNow customers. Those who utilize Infoblox’s industry-leading IP address management could greatly benefit from the app we built here at RapDev: Infoblox Subnet Integration for Discovery. This app seamlessly integrates ServiceNow's discovery capabilities with Infoblox, allowing discovery managers to simplify maintaining discovery schedules within ServiceNow. In this blog post, we'll explore the benefits of this integration and how it can help you optimize your IT infrastructure and improve overall efficiency.

What does the Infoblox integration do?

The Infoblox Subnet Integration for Discovery is a custom ServiceNow application built by RapDev engineers and available in the ServiceNow store. The integration easily connects to your Infoblox server after only setting a few properties and creating the Infoblox connection and credentials. Once connected and configured, the application will retrieve all IPv4 subnets and single IPv6 addresses, pull them into ServiceNow, and automatically create a daily discovery schedule for those IP addresses.

How does it work?

The properties seen in the screenshot below will be the primary driver for the integration. Query parameters can be set to filter out certain groups of IPs for which you do not wish to create discovery schedules. The created discovery schedules can be grouped by specifying an Infoblox attribute to create a schedule for each unique attribute value. For example, if you utilize the site attribute in Infoblox, the discovery schedules can be unique to each unique site value. The discovery schedule location can also be set and matched to a ServiceNow location field on the table.

The application will trigger flows daily to pull in IP addresses and create discovery schedules. In the example below, you can see the IP subnet defined in Infoblox and the corresponding discovery schedule created by the integration. If additional IP subnets with Site set to Colombia existed in Infoblox, they would also have a Discovery Range Set record created under the same Discovery Schedule seen here.

We hope the Infoblox Subnet Integration for Discovery relieves some of the manual management of IP addresses and discovery schedules for organizations using IPAM by Infoblox.
